New Incremental Serial Interface (ISI) Linear Transducers
Written By klscontrols

Incremental Output Encoders with Absolute Positioning.

TR Electronic is proud to manufacture the largest selection of rotary and linear encoders in our market. Our customers benefit from the latest design and support options available in the industry. For applications which only require simple pulse count positioning, an Incremental is the encoder for you.

We are here for Manufacturing!

ISI Interface Provides a Familiar Incremental Output with Absolute Positioning!

 What is ISI?

ISI is an interface available on TR encoder products that provides ABSOLUTE positioning using a standard incremental interface. This interface sends positioning changes to your controller as pulses, using a standard incremental channel (A and B plus complements). The absolute position of your system is maintained within the encoder and can be extracted by triggering the Load In/Load Out functions. No batteries required! How ISI Works:

With ISI, changes in the encoder position are transferred by two incremental tracks. The 90° phase displacement between the two incremental signals indicates the direction of travel. This is typical of any incremental encoder with Quadrature output. What makes ISI different, and VERY valuable, is it also includes a Load Input and Load Output. Triggering the input will signal the encoder to stop producing pulses. Your device counter can now be reset to zero and the absolute position of the encoder is communicated through pulses, up to the encoder absolute position. This loads the absolute position into your control system. When the absolute position value is reached, it turns off the Load Output signal and the encoder returns to normal operation. ISI is a great solution for providing absolute position when only an incremental interface is available on the controller or drive.

KLS Controls and TR’s Encoder Experts can assist you with the ISI interface or any of our industry leading communication options. Please call us at 414-333-4070 or sales@klscontrols.com.

Linear Transducer Applications
Written By klscontrols

A linear transducer is a sensor or device that provides a signal, digital or analog, to a controller based on a position measurement. There are various technologies which are used for measuring linear position. Here is one of them.

Magnetostriction Measurement:

Current pulses are sent through a magnetostrictive wire, positioned inside a protective tube, creating a ring shaped magnetic field around the wire. A non-contact permanent magnet serves as a position sensor. The magnetic field of the magnet interfaces with the magnetic field of the magnetostrictive wire. This interference causes a magnetostriction, resulting in a torsion pulse. The torsion pulse leaves the point of interference with constant ultrasonic speed, moving along the waveguide in both directions. The time difference between the transmission of the torsion pulse and its arrival at the sensing element (receiving coil) at the detector head is converted electrically into a distance proportional signal, which is provided either as a digital or analog output signal. These signals are then available for communication to the controller via is the measuring principle based on a travel time delayPoint to Point, Fieldbus and Ethernet interfaces. Magnetostriction linear encoders come in two standard housing (construction) designs; Cylinder Mount (Rod), and Profile Mount.

We have numerous styles to choose from to best suit your application along with many outputs to interface into your controller or PLC.

Call us if you have a linear position application, we have many years of experience with the technology and will help you find the best one suited for your company.

Applications:

Automatic Size Changing, Servo Hydraulic Feedback, Shut Height Feedback Monitoring, Gantry Applications, Dancer Arm Control, Trim Press Height, Proof of Mold Closure, In Cylinder for Hydraulic or Pneumatics.

5 Must Do Customer Service Strategies
Written By klscontrols

Reprinted with permission from Shep Hyken. A business mentor of mine.

KLS Controls is proud to service our customers and is grateful of their business. If there is anything we can do to improve our service, please do not hesitate to call.

1. Do not settle for satisfied customers.

Satisfactory is an average rating. The best companies recognize that satisfied customers are not loyal customers.Every employee should ask themselves a question: What am I doing right now to ensure that the next time the customer needs what it is that we do or sell, they will choose us?Most people think of loyalty as a lifetime, but it is really about the next time, all of the time.

2. Get into alignment.

Every employee must know what the company expects from them,as well as the brand promise the company makes to the customers. Create a mantra, which is a one sentence or less statement that combines the vision and mission of the company,as well as the promise to the customer. The Ritz Carlton hotel chain has a great one that is just nine words long,We are ladies and gentlemen serving ladies and gentlemen.Everyone gets it,the employees and the guests, customers. The employees have it memorized. They live and breathe the mantra, all of the time.

3. Constantly train.

The best companies budget time and expense for on going training of both hard or technical skills, the skills needed to do their job,and soft skills like customer service, relationship and personal improvement. They do not do this once in a while, they do it all of the time.

4. Create confidence.

Confidence comes from a predictable experience. You want customers to own their experience with you, which means that they know what to expect all of the time.

5. Be amazing.

The best and amazing companies do not deliver over the top customer service experiences all of the time. While once in a while they do,their secret is consistency. They are simply predictably better than average, all of the time.
